This earthquake was caused by the Nazca and South American plates colliding into each other with force. Chileans were prepared for the earthquake. They were prepared in some way because of the buildings that had an effect to sway and rock with the earthquake.This effect is helped by isolated bearings which is like a spring. The buildings that did withstand the earthquake proved architects had some sort of a plan to keep the destructtive buildings from destorying the town even more.

 Architects think Chile can apply isolation bearings to buildings all over the country to prevent more damage. The houses and buildings will move with the shaking of the earthquake instead of and falling down. This results in less of a clean- up for Chile.
